Description
This sculpture of a cat sleeping is 26 cm wide, about 20 cm deep and 12 cm, and weighs just under 6kg. The cat is a cast from an original wood carving and is one of a limited edition of 20 casts to be made from this carving.
It is made using a version of the “cold cast” bronze approach which involves creating a resin shell and filling it with a core of limestone granules bound together with a resin-backed plaster. This is then coated using a “liquid metal” approach, which covers the piece in thin layer of bronze which can have a patina applied. In this case a light verdigris patina has been used, and finally the sculpture has been waxed.
The result of this is a sculpture with the fine detail of the original carving, a good quality bronze look and feel, plus sufficient weight not to seem out of place. The piece will last many years in most environments, though will be more sensitive knocks and bumps than a fully bronze carving.
